As I’ve mentioned on numerous occasion, the importance of having the proper undergarments should be top priority when dressing. Choosing the wrong undergarments can either make or break a look. I teamed up with the good folks over at Kohl’s for this post. Kohl’s carries a wide selection of undergarments. Today, I’ve outlined seven underwear/panty types, the importance of each and when they should be worn. But first—let’s talk about a few important rules when choosing your best undergarment.
1. Comfort over fashion. I’m not saying that the two can’t co-exist, but should you need to choose one over the other—-always opt for comfort. You’ll be walking around all day with this skin-hugging garment so it’s only right that you choose its overall features, advantages and design over optics like branding, or color. Truth is, just because it’s a designer brand doesn’t mean that it will deliver optimal comfort.
2. Size right. What defines comfort? The fit. Geesh. There is nothing more irritating than a pair of undies that fit way too small. The agony. The pain. The discomfort. Bras especially are important to be properly fitted for—at least annually. In the case of panties, compare your waist and hip size to the size charts that are usually printed on the product packaging.
3. Know your fabrics. Cotton is generally the favorite fabric choice. It breathes well, retains its original quality and is easy to care for over time. The softer the fabric, the better. Other fabric choices such as satin and silks are great choices too, but require a higher level of care since they require handwashing. I like blends because they have all of these qualities. Bottom line, make sure that the crotch is lined with 100% cotton.

Thank you for this post which addresses a matter that all women encounter as they dress daily. In order to feel fashionably fabulous, I need proper fitting undergarments. I tend to choose one type, hipsters, and repeatedly purchase because I like the fit. I don't think I realized until reading this blog that I had fallen into the pattern of purchasing the same type of panties and expecting them to work for every wardrobe situation. The blog highlights valid reasons as to why other types can benefit me from a comfort and an overall appropriate fit perspective.
