Hatitude

Hey beauties. I hope that your new year is off to a fabulous start. When I restarted my sewing journey as a novice a little over three years ago after attending a sewing conference in LA hosted by the fabulous Mimi G of Mimi G Style—I couldn’t of imagine how fulfilling it would be let alone the sense of creative freedom it would have provided. I was initially introduced to the craft while taking a mandatory home economic class in high school and when I transitioned to college, I was too broke to seriously commit to the craft. So my only option at the time was to repurpose old clothes using just a pair of scissors, needle and thread. Three years ago, I constructed this backless halter maxi dress without a pattern—just by free hand. It wasn’t perfect but I wanted to push the envelope by stepping out of my comfort zone by not relying on a commercial pattern for guidance. I wanted to see if I had what it took to construct a garment from conception to creation. The end result? Nothing close to perfection—but it was a step in the right creative direction that allowed me to never look back.

Stepping out to pursue a passion or to discover our purpose in life can be scary. The fear of the unknown. The fear of putting our feet in murky and uncharted waters. The fear of leaving security for insecurity. The fear of rejection. And lastly….the fear of FAILURE. But the truth is, without risk—there would be absolutely no reward. So I challenge you to push the envelope into uncomfortable territory in 2016. You won’t be alone—-I’ll be walking that path right along with you. Until next time….Peace, Love & Blessings!
